...The Tree Jumped Out At Me -- Honest...

www.bootblack.co.uk

As Dave's still suffering with his back I've been delegated to do all the driving - great! - as it's not something I enjoy but needs must and I'm just getting on with it - and today we BOTH had hospital appointments...OMG! we're just TOO old...

--------------------

Anyway I drove to the hospital, found a parking space AND reversed it in - YAHOO - opened the boot and got coats etc out -- slammed the boot shut and off we rushed - well I rushed off (as I was a bit late - again!) but I left Dave in the car park taking 'dolly steps' to his out-patients appointment.

-----------------

We met up afterwards and got back into the car to continue our journey into town - I put it into first gear started to pull away and there was this awful thud noise coming from the boot area 'What the f**k was that?' questioned Dave. I got out of the car to take a look and saw that rather a large piece of tree was hanging from the boot

------------------

....obviously when I slammed the boot down earlier I caught the overhanging tree in it... OOPS!

...Mere Woman Or Computer Genuis...?

www.bootblack.co.uk

I've got a new Acer desk-top computer - the first one had to be returned because it didn't work - :(

--------------

So another was delivered last week and yee-hee plugged it in and off it went - that was until I tried to install the printer (that was working perfectly well on the old computer!!) & of course the new one doesn't seem to know the meaning of 'plug & play'. SO I've spent many hours over the last couple of days trying to sort it...you know the sort of thing you come up against...computer says 'YIPPEE! software installed' but when I actually believed it (silly me - will I never learn?) and tried to print something...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED..

-------------

It didn't help when Dave says 'You've plug in all the leads, haven't you? I can tell you the look I gave him was enough to make him sneak back into the garage and mind his own business.

----------------

Who does he think I am - just a mere woman? or a computer genuis?

...I Know That Feeling...

www.bootblack.co.uk

A teenager lost a contact lens while playing basketball in his driveway.

After a fruitless search, he told his mother the lens was no where to be found.

Undaunted, she went outside and in a few minutes returned with the lens in her hand."How did you manage to find it, Mom?" the teenager asked.

"We weren't looking for the same thing," she replied. "You were looking for a small piece of plastic. I was looking for £150."

...Can You Just Lift Your Legs...?

www.bootblack.co.uk

Dave had an appointment this morning with the Physio at the hospital regarding the latest episode with his back - he's still in a lot of pain and even though he now can get out of bed and walk about (in a fashion) it's still a long way from OK.

---------------

He's now waiting for an appointment to start Hydro-Therapy to see if that'll help him at all and also has another appointment on Monday with the Physio again.

---------------

So we've got a round of doctors & hospital visits coming up

.................

...Oh Well! at least it's a nice drive back & forward to the hospital...

...But, I Don't Like Liver...

www.bootblack.co.uk

I don't mind having liver for dinner for a change but we never have it because Dave hates it with a vengeance and the couple of times in the last thirty years that I've put it in front of him he's just pushed it around his plate moaning and groaning like a drain & only eating the gravy and bacon (if there's any!).
---------------
But while I was in the butchers today - without Dave - they were doing a prepared liver & bacon in gravy so I thought I'd give it a go for tonight's dinner. Mind you I didn't tell Dave what we were going to have and when he asked me 'What's for dinner?' I answered 'Gammon' with a very straight face - which he loves...is that too wicked?... :0)
---------------------
Anyway, dinner was ready and as he sat down to tuck in to it, a very upset look appeared on his face (just like a kid - not getting what he wanted from Santa!) and he moaned 'Oh God, is this liver you know I hate liver?' To which I replied 'Don't be such a fairy cake and just eat it'. And wonders never cease he ate it - he ate it all up (just like Goldilocks!!) and at the end of it his plate was clean and he said 'I really enjoyed that'
........................
-- UNBELIEVABLE -- needless to say he'll be having it again - and again - and again - and................

I'm A Real Working Girl...

www.bootblack.co.uk

- WELL - I've survived the first day back in a 'proper job'. The hardest thing - and this is going to sound so sad - was actually staying at the desk & continually working.....I know, I know - what is she on??...

~~~~~~~~~~~
But for years - ten to be exact I've just got up from the computer/desk whenever I've felt like it to empty the washing machine or go into the garden to feed the birds (you know the sort of thing that I mean!) & of course I was there to work for six hours - that's six whole hours - and it was quite hard not to just get up and 'wander' around when I felt like it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

But other than that I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to going again next week. Maybe I could ask to walk the dogs while I'm there so as to get away from the desk for a while??

...Getting My Brain Into Gear...

www.bootblack.co.uk

I can't believe that I forgot to blog for 2 days -- two whole days -- what's the matter with me??

----------------

Anyway, I'm here now :0)

Dave's still suffering with his back and had another appointment with the doctor this afternoon - he's given him stronger painkillers for a week to try and relax the 'spasms' that he's getting as soon as he stands or tries to sit for longer than a few minutes...he's really fed up with it now & moaning about what he could be doing...he's coming into the 9th day of being laid-up so it's a long time for Dave to be doing nothing -- I can tell you.

-------------

I've been to the gym again this morning (4th week) for my back and I'm also taking a brisk walk every day and I must admit that it is helping. So it's definitely worth the effort.

---------------------

I'm getting quite nervous about starting the new job tomorrow but I'm sure it'll be OK once I'm there and started

...I've sorted out what clothes to wear - so that's what's important...

Isn't it???

...I Only Want A PC That Works...

www.bootblack.co.uk

I've been humming and erring for ages about whether or not to buy another desk-top computer or my very first lap-top but I can't justify buying a lap-top really, it's just that 'everyone' seems to have one and I feel that I might be missing out on something by not having one.

----------------------

But the last couple of weeks or so my desk-top has been playing up - again - so I made the decision to go for another one and put the lap-top on hold for now. So I did a bit of research by reading peoples reviews, googling PCs and speaking to Tom (youngest son) who knows a lot more about them than I do and he said 'Acer lap-tops are reliable and have never given him any trouble' so I took the plunge and bought an Acer desk-top.

----------------

It arrived yesterday and has been returned to the shop today - guess what - it doesn't damn well work - unbelievable!! I've spent all this time, finally make a decision - paid my money and now I'm back to square one - asking the question

...What Do I Buy...???

-----------

What is with us & brand new products?

......they either just don't work properly or won't even switch on......

...Oh Happy Days...

www.bootblack.co.uk

I've been walking round today in much of a daze - silly I know - but it's been a LONG time since I was offered a job, I can tell you....

------------------

I had to phone the human resources department at Mortons (the other vacancy) this morning to cancel the interview that was already booked and I must admit it felt really good to say. 'I've been offered and accepted another appointment'

-----------------

What I really felt like saying was. 'Hard luck, sucker, you were just too damn slow'

...OMG I've Got A Job...

www.bootblack.co.uk

...WELL! WELL! WELL! it was as easy as that...

I toyed with the idea a couple of weeks ago to look for a part-time job and sent off a couple of CV's (for a laugh really) last week for two admin positions. I really didn't expect even to hear anything as I've not had a 'proper' job for nearly 10 years as I've worked with Dave doing the accounts and book-keeping ever since we first had a small electrical shop in 1998 and then since 2001 refurbishing property and even though I've been on a couple of courses for computer related things I've never kept completely up to date with office procedures and the like..... so to say I was amazed on Monday when I received calls from both of the companies offering me interviews this week - really is an understatement...
-----
- I was dumb-founded -
-----
I had the first one today at noon and felt quite nervous as I drove up to The Big House (in the pouring rain, I might add) where the builder has his office and was greeted at the door by his office manager. I took to them both right away and spent a very enjoyable hour & half with them - laughing and joking - by the end of it they looked at each other and Peter...that's my 'boss'...said. 'When can you start?'
So I'm starting there next week - EEK - I'm still in a daze by the speed of it
...Now, what am I going to wear to 'The Office'...
OH DEAR! I feel a shopping Spree coming on

...Can You Just...?

www.bootblack.co.uk

Dave was still in an enormous amount of pain and stayed in bed all day yesterday with his back - the doctor actually came to the 'sick-bed' to see him - and the advice from the Doc was 'Stay where you are & keep taking the pills'
-----------------
It's quite surprising (I think) that as long as he lays down the pain in his lower back is eased significantly but as soon as he sits up or tries to stand the pains are back with with a vengeance and he just can't move. I would have thought that just laying flat for hours on end would make your back ache...
----------------
He had me running around after him all day & said that he needed a bell so that he didn't need to keep shouting for me
...needless to say I went out straight away and bought him one...

...Can't You Hold It...?

www.bootblack.co.uk
...Hang On Where's The Camera...???
Dave's hurt his back again yesterday while he was sanding the lounge floor and when he bent forward he had a huge jab in the left side of his back and just couldn't move. This has happened before because he has a prolapsed disc, but it's still pretty scary when it does happens as I never know quite what to do to help him.
...................
He finally managed with help from me to perch on the window sill and had to sit there for about an hour before he could put enough of his weight on two walking sticks and was able to shuffle towards the bed - where he's been ever since.
...................

He was in so much pain last night that I was on the verge of calling an ambulance but he kept saying, 'Wait I'll be OK' and after an age, the painkillers started to kick in he was more relaxed

...................

That was until he needed a wee in the middle of the night and he just couldn't even beginning to sit up let alone stand & walk to the bathroom

so there I am...3 o'clock in the morning... holding a bucket...still half asleep

...well you get the picture - don't you...?

It was the last boot fair of the year at Stickney yesterday, so Dave & I set the alarm for 7.30am to get up early and when it went off we both promptly fell back to sleep again until 9am :0)

...so that worked a treat then...

...28 Days And Counting...

www.bootblack.co.uk
... Steve in a rather fetching little number at Melbourne MOTO...

It's still another 28 days until I see my boy again and to say I'm counting the days is really an understatement - I'm practically counting the hours - it's been almost two years (a whole two years) since I last saw his face and held him in my arms & that's too long - much, much too long.
----------------
Steve left England for OZ on 20 November 2006 - he didn't plan to stay for ever, only a year - but he fell in love with Sydney & a girl called Jackie (that's another story for another day!) and is now never coming back - well! not to live here that's for sure :(
----------------
But he is coming back for three glorious weeks
...in 28 days - that's 672 hours - in case you're counting...

...Look At Me - Walking...

www.bootblack.co.uk

The weather here yesterday was glorious - lovely and bright with no wind and not too chilly - so just before lunch I decided to leave my computer and go for my second walk of the week. This is on the advice of the Physio who said that I should exercise more (surprise, surprise) as it would help loosen up my back and hey! who knows...it might even work...
-------------------------
It was a fairly pleasant experience - that's all I'm saying - the only problem is today's another day & I've got to do it again...!!

Dave & I have been together for thirty - yes thirty - years...It can't be...It really doesn't feel like it and I must admit that it was the best thing that I ever did when I said yes to his very nervous attempt at asking me out to his friends wedding reception way back in October 1978....and to think I nearly said no....EEK!

...Boy I Ache...

www.bootblack.co.uk

I attended my third (can you believe it... third?) gym class yesterday & actually didn't feel quite so knackered at the end of it as before...so that's good news. I've been going on the advise of the Physio that I saw a few weeks ago regarding my backache and 'jabbing' pains in my hip/bum. She said that it would probably help to strengthen the muscles and improve my posture
....I HATE all exercise but have vowed to give it a fair go to see if it really will help....
--------------------
-- But I know what I'm like & that I'll not keep it up after the six weeks have ended - it's just not me & I know it and I'm too old to pretend that I'll change my ways & exercise regularly --

I saw a rat - a real live huge rat - sitting by the fence in the garden yesterday - and I can honestly say I freaked out a bit (well quite a bit really!) and just couldn't relax until Dave had set a trap to kill the bastard stone dead.

We have cornfields to the rear and side of us so I know that I'm never far away from them but it's one thing to know they're out there somewhere in the distance but it's quite another thing to gaze out of the window and see one sitting there, proud as punch, in my garden....I can tell you.....
