...What A Fetching Little Number...?Outside Temp: 9c--cold & damp--We arrived at the hospital at 8am - that was an early 'get-up' (6.30am!) I can tell you - Dave & I don't normally leave the pit until around 9-ish :0)
He seemed OK & pretty calm seeings as he has a 'thing' about needles...he's been known to pass-out & that's from just having a blood test...and as we drove there he was chatty.
When we arrived on the ward after being shown to his bed we sat around for 20 minutes or so waiting for someone to come & I could see that he was a little edgy -- sitting on the side of the bed, hands between his knees and rocking slightly was the giveaway --
Dr Gibbs arrived and explained what they were going to do - not really a great idea to go into too much detail - and Dave nodded and said he understood. I added that Dave's not happy around needles and he seemed sympathetic and said
'That they would be plenty of people around if he had a problem'.
I just thought of all those beady eyes peering at him above the masks & asking him if he was OK every few minutes but Dave seemed reassured.
A flustered nurse arrived to fill in more paperwork & check pills - ask when he'd last eaten & did he need the loo! - and apologised for being in a rush but stated that Dave was first on the list and they were waiting for his notes - EEK! - then Mr Watson (the back man that Dave had seen in January) arrived from behind the curtain and started talking about the whole procedure again!!
By now Dave was getting redder & redder and really looked uneasy - when the nurse took his pulse & blood pressure (twice!) - she smiled and said 'You're quite worried aren't you?'
He only just had time to nip to the loo & put on his silly theatre gown - lucky they let him keep his underpants on as the ties where missing from the back :0) and he was back on the trolley and being whisked away.
He left me sitting on the ward and worrying - but I was pleased for him that it was rushed really as he didn't have too much time to sit around thinking about it - he was back on the ward within 45 minutes & looking so much calmer and a natural colour.
They brought him tea & biscuits, told him to stay in bed for half an hour or so then he was allowed to get up & dressed and then discharged after having a wee, given a letter for our doctor & an out-patients appointment for May - all within 2 hours - brill!

But has it worked & given him any relief?? He doesn't know yet - he says that he feels so tender & painful at the base of his spine (where they injected) that that's taken over from the 'normal' pain.
I expect that he'll know today
